Audio Engineer

Also known as Sound Engineer, Recording Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Audio Equipment Technician, Sound Engineering Technician

Audio engineers balance the sound and record music during live performances and in-studio recordings.

Audio engineers ensure that the translation of live sound into recorded sound is seamless and the highest quality possible. They use equipment to record, synchronize, mix, or reproduce music, voices, or sound effects. Audio engineers collaborate with clients to produce the best sound for any types of recordings and live performances. They work on the production of concerts, movies, music recordings, live shows, video games, radio, and television.

Audio engineers must consider many factors around how the sound will work in the space provided and how the recording equipment will work with specific instrument(s) used. They consider microphone placements, sound levels, and monitor the quality of all audio to maintain consistency.
