A score mixer works with a composer to produce the music for a production.

A score mixer has all the same jobs as a mixer, except they are specialized to work alongside a composer to create a final composition for a production (often a film). In addition to balancing and mixing recorded tracks, score mixers will coordinate with the composer and provide them with any pre-recorded materials needed to complete a composition. They may work with a composer during mixing to ensure the correct musical elements are heard as per the composer’s intent.

A score mixer is expected to have training in audio engineering or sound design. This is most often done through a bachelor’s degree in audio engineering or sound design, but internships are also possible.
