Stage Manager

The stage manager coordinates all on-stage and backstage logistics required for a performance and manages stage crew and house personnel.

Also known as Production Manager

The Stage Manager is responsible for all the logistics on the stage, and ensuring the smooth coordination of concert programs. A stage manager studies the needs of each program, identifying the stage setup and equipment necessary to successfully produce the concert. They must be knowledgeable about audio and lighting needs, including supervising stage crew assigned to those areas.

Many stage managers are musicians, and understand the needs best because they have performed on stage many times themselves. Stage managers must have a calm and professional demeanor at all times, while interacting with musicians, conductors, and stage crew.
